Charlize Theron recently made some bold predictions about artificial intelligence and its impact on Hollywood, and she apparently has some thoughts about Timothée Chalamet‘s career prospects.

The Academy Award-winning actress spoke to The New York Times about AI technology and entertainment, making a distinction that is probably going to get people talking.

She explained: “In 10 years, AI is going to be able to do Timothée’s job, but it will not be able to replace a person on a stage dancing live.”

The comments reportedly came in response to previous remarks Chalamet had made about ballet and opera, though the specifics of his original statements were not detailed in the coverage.

Theron seems to be drawing a line between what AI can and cannot replicate in the entertainment world. Film acting, according to her assessment, is apparently more vulnerable to technological replacement than live performance.

This is not exactly the kind of career advice most actors want to hear, especially when it comes from someone of Theron’s stature in Hollywood.

The Mad Max star has been in the industry for decades and has seen plenty of technological changes reshape how movies are made. Her perspective on AI likely comes from years of experience watching the business evolve.

Chalamet, meanwhile, has become one of Hollywood’s most sought-after young actors, with roles in films like Dune and Call Me by Your Name establishing him as a serious talent.

But according to Theron’s prediction, even his level of skill might not be enough to compete with artificial intelligence in the coming decade.

The distinction she makes about live performance is interesting and probably accurate. There is something about the energy and presence of a live dancer or performer that technology seems unlikely to replicate fully.

Stage performance requires real-time interaction with an audience, spontaneous reactions, and physical presence that AI has not yet mastered.

Film acting, however, might be a different story entirely. With deepfake technology already advancing rapidly, Theron’s timeline might not be that far-fetched.

The entertainment industry has been grappling with AI concerns for a while now, especially after the recent strikes that highlighted these exact worries among actors and writers.

Theron’s comments touch on fears that many performers have been expressing about their job security in an age of rapidly advancing technology.

The PopCrave tweet sharing her remarks apparently struck a chord with social media users, racking up over 6,000 likes and nearly 300 retweets.

People seem divided on whether her prediction is realistic or overly pessimistic about the future of acting.

Some followers might argue that the human element in film performance is just as irreplaceable as it is on stage, while others apparently see her point about technological advancement.

The timing of these comments is particularly notable, coming as Hollywood continues to negotiate the role of AI in entertainment production.

Chalamet has not responded to Theron’s prediction about his career prospects, and he probably does not need to.

Whether AI will actually be able to replicate the nuanced performances that make actors like Chalamet successful remains to be seen.

For now, it seems like Theron is simply being realistic about where technology might be headed, even if her timeline feels aggressive to some.

The conversation about AI and entertainment is clearly just getting started.
