The Chicoutimi Sagueneens have improved to a record of one win and one loss at the 2026 Memorial Cup in Kelowna, British Columbia. On Sunday night at Prospera Place, the Sagueneens defeated the Kelowna Rockets 3-2 in overtime.
The Sagueneens received a game-winning goal by Liam Lefebvre of Montreal, Quebec. Lefebvre scored from centre Nathan Lecompte of Chateauguay, Quebec and defenseman Peteris Bulans at 5:28 of the extra period. For Lefebvre, this was his second goal of the game. He opened the scoring at 14:38 of the first period from defenseman Alonso Gosselin of Verdun, Quebec and right winger Maxim Schafer.
Lefebvre was one of two Sagueneens player with a multi-point game. The other player to accomplish the feat was Lecompte. With five minutes and 59 seconds left in the third period, the Sagueneens went up by a score of 2-1 when Lecompte picked up his first helper of the game when he had the lone assist on a goal by left winger Anton Linde.
This was the second game of a back-to-back for the Sagueneens. Chicoutimi lost 5-3 to the Everett Silvertips on Saturday. There is one more all-Canadian matchup in the round robin portion of the schedule. That will take place on Tuesday when the Sagueneens play the Kitchener Rangers.
