Colorescience, known for its powder sunscreen and SPF-infused makeup, was acquired by Roundtable Healthcare Partners, a private equity firm that invests in health-related businesses such as clinics, labs and medical products on Feb. 2. Colorescience’s distribution points at medical spas and dermatologist clinics were a draw for the firm. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Launched in 2000 by Bare Escentuals founder Diane Ranger, the medically oriented brand was spun off from Allergan in 2012. It received a $15 million Series C investment in 2017 led by private investment firm 1315 Capital, which invests in healthcare services and pharmaceutical and medtech products.
Roundtable acquired the brand from a 1315 Capital-led group of shareholders. It marks Roundtable’s ninth consumer healthcare investment, said Jawwad Akhtar, a partner at the firm, in a press release.
Beyond professional channels, the brand is also distributed through direct-to-consumer and clinically oriented e-commerce platforms like Dermstore. Expansion goals following the investment will include increased brand awareness, greater channel penetration and new product launches.
