Canadian cozy game Capy Castaway will launch on PC (Steam) on August 6.
Toronto-based indie developer Kitten Cup confirmed the release date in a short new trailer. Notably, the game was inspired in part by the infamous “Bonnie & Clyde” capybara escape from Toronto’s High Park Zoo.
In Capy Castaway, you play as Capy the capybara pup and Corvi the crow as they team up to find their way home after Toronto is hit by a flood. Playable solo or with a friend, the game has you guiding the duo through cozy exploration, puzzles and exchanges with other animals.
During a visit to the High Park Zoo last year, Kitten Cup also teased many Canadian easter eggs in the game, including nods to the likes of Tim Horton’s, loonies and toonies, and such Toronto landmarks as Honest Ed’s and the Queen Street Viaduct.
This is the second game from Kitten Cup, following 2023’s acclaimed tea-making simulator Pekoe. For more from Kitten Cup on Capy Castaway, check out our big feature on games set in Canada.
It’s worth noting that Capy Castaway isn’t the only Canadian indie game launching on August 6. Ambrosia Sky: Act Two, Toronto-based Soft Rains’ follow-up to its acclaimed “clean ’em up” from last year, is also dropping on that date.
