Statistically, Overton leaves a massive void. He was currently the team’s second-highest wicket-taker, boasting 14 wickets at an impressive average of 17.78 and a strike rate that kept the opposition under constant pressure. His final contribution was a Player of the Match performance against LSG on May 11, where his figures of 3 for 36 anchored a crucial five-wicket victory at Chepauk.
The injury list at the CSK camp now resembles a hospital ward. Before the season even commenced, pacer Nathan Ellis was sidelined with a hamstring issue. Since then, the team has lost left-arm quick Khaleel Ahmed (quadricep) and the promising Ayush Mhatre (hamstring). Forrester made his T20I debut for South Africa in March 2026 against New Zealand and has quickly gained a reputation as a clutch player. In his five international appearances to date, he has accumulated 83 runs and shown a temperament that fits the high-pressure environment of the IPL. With a first-class average of over 45 and a T20 strike rate exceeding 140, Forrester offers a balanced skill set that coach Stephen Fleming will look to exploit immediately.
Currently sitting fifth in the points table with 12 points from 11 games, CSK’s path to the playoffs remains open but narrow.
