Canadian women’s wheelchair basketball player Kady Dandeneau of Pender Island, British Columbia has been named the flag bearer for Canada at the opening ceremonies of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland on Thursday according to CBC Sports. She won the gold medal for Canada in the 3×3 women’s wheelchair basketball tournament at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham alongside Tara Llanes of North Vancouver, British Columbia, Tamara Steeves of Etobicoke, Ontario, and Elodie Tessier of Montreal, Quebec.
It was a perfect tournament for Team Canada in women’s 3×3 wheelchair basketball at the Commonwealth Games four years ago. Canada defeated Kenya 17-1 and England 13-8 in Group A action, before defeating Scotland 12-5 in the semifinals and Australia 14-5 in the gold medal game. It was an excellent Tournament for Dandeneau, as she led Canada in scoring in three of their four victories and had 23 points overall.
At the 2026 Commonwealth Games, Dandeneau and Tessier return from the gold medal winning Canadian team of four years ago. They have teamed up with Puisand Lai of Toronto, Ontario and Rosie Long of Oakville, Ontario. Canada is in Group A alongside England, Australia and South Africa.
Dandeneau became disabled in 2010 after breaking her leg while playing women’s basketball with the University of Northern British Columbia. She experienced a bone defect in her leg after having four operations.
