An electric atmosphere filled Lord’s Cricket Ground as England Women squared off against West Indies Women in the 22nd Match of Group 2 during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. On a clear June 24 evening, the home crowd was treated to a spectacular showcase of modern T20 cricket. Driven by an aggressive batting blueprint and an incredibly disciplined bowling display, England secured a commanding 38-run victory to assert their dominance in the tournament.

Danni Wyatt-Hodge stars with the bat as England post a formidable total

After navigating an early shock when opener Amy Jones fell for just 8 in the first over, England rebuilt with supreme intent. The cornerstone of their innings was Player of the Match Danni Wyatt-Hodge, who blasted a sparkling 65 off just 42 deliveries. Wyatt-Hodge brought up her half-century in a mere 32 balls, anchoring the innings with seven crisp boundaries.

England’s middle order capitalized beautifully on the foundation laid by Wyatt-Hodge. Alice Capsey contributed a steady 28 off 23 balls, featuring three boundaries, and shared a vital 66-run partnership with Wyatt-Hodge to keep the scoreboard ticking at over nine runs an over. Following Capsey’s dismissal in the 12th over, captain Heather Knight injected late-innings urgency. Knight smashed a rapid 43 off 26 balls, punishing the West Indies attack with three fours and a six.

Despite a late flurry of wickets, including the run-outs of both Wyatt-Hodge and Knight, and Ashmini Munisar‘s tidy bowling figures of 2 for 42, England closed their 20 overs at a formidable 186 for 7.

England’s disciplined attack with the ball successfully contained West Indies’ chase

Chasing a steep target of 187, the West Indies needed an explosive start but found themselves choked by England’s lethal spin and seam variations. Left-arm spinner Linsey Smith made the initial breakthrough by removing danger-woman and Windies captain Hayley Matthews for 14. Soon after, Deandra Dottin threatened briefly with a brisk 19 off 11 balls before falling to Charlie Dean.

The England bowling unit maintained relentless pressure through the middle overs. Captain Dean led from the front, registering brilliant figures of 2 for 31. She was masterfully supported by Sophie Ecclestone, who strangled the scoring rate by conceding just 22 runs in her 4 overs while cleaning up Shemaine Campbelle for 20. Lauren Bell also delivered a highly economical spell, taking 1 for 20 at an economy rate of exactly 5.00.

While Jahzara Claxton anchored one end with a patient 21, the only real resistance came from Chinelle Henry. Coming in late, Henry played a sensational, unbeaten counter-attacking knock of 51 off 30 balls, hitting four fours and two towering sixes. However, her lonely crusade was not enough to offset the mounting required run rate. West Indies were restricted to 148 for 5 as the 20 overs expired, handing England a convincing 38-run win and reinforcing their status as heavy tournament favourites.
