Canadian Olympic gold medalist Andre De Grasse of Scarborough, Ontario won the bronze medal on Thursday in the men’s 200 metres at the Zurich Diamond League Track and Field event in Switzerland. For De Grasse, it was 23rd career Diamond League medal. He has now won 11 gold medals, five silver medals, and seven bronze medals.
In the men’s 200 metre final, De Grasse had a time of 20.03 seconds. He reached the podium by seven one-hundredths of a second. Makanakaishe Charamba of Zimbabwe finished in fourth place with a time of 20.10 seconds. Kenneth Bednarek of the United States won the gold medal with a time of 19.62 seconds and Sinesipho Dambile of South Africa won the silver medal with a time of 19.82 seconds.
This was De Grasse’s first Diamond League medal of the 2026 track and field season. By winning bronze, De Grasse qualified for the men’s 200 metre Diamond League Final in Brussels, Belgium next week. De Grasse is one of three Canadians to have qualified in the Diamond League Finals. Canadian Olympic silver medalist Marco Arop of Edmonton, Alberta is in the finals of the men’s 800 metres and Sarah Mitton of Liverpool, Nova Scotia is in the final of the women’s shot put. De Grasse won gold in the men’s 200 metres at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021 and Arop won silver in the men’s 800 metres at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
De Grasse finished in seventh place in the men’s 200 metres in the Diamond League standings in 2026 with 10 points. The top eight qualified for the final. Dambile led all runners in the men’s 200 metres with 42 points.
