Gabriel Diallo and Felix Auger-Aliassime, both of Montreal, Quebec, are in the second round of Wimbledon. In the first round on Monday, Auger-Aliassime defeated Alexander Shevchenko of Kazakhstan, 6-3, 6-1, 6-4. In the first round on Tuesday, Diallo defeated Benjamin Bonzi of France, 1-6, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3, 3-1. Bonzi withdrew from the fifth set due to an injury.

This was the first time in Diallo’s career that he won a match after losing the first two sets. It was the second time in Diallo’s career that he won a match that went to five sets. Diallo previously beat Luca Nardi of Italy in the first round of the 2025 Australian Open, 6-7, 7-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.

In Auger-Aliassime’s win over Shevchenko, Auger-Aliassime had 15 aces compared to one for Shevchenko. He also broke Shevchenko five times in nine opportunities. What was also impressive was the fact that Auger-Aliassime, the third seed, did not give Shevchenko a single break point opportunity.

Diallo had 11 aces compared to nine for Bonzi. Next up for Diallo is Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego. Diallo lost their only prior match. That came in the first round of Auckland in 2025, where Sonego won 7-6, 2-6, 7-6. Auger-Aliassime, the semifinalist at the United States Open in 2021 and 2025, is playing Dino Prizmic of Croatia for the first time in his career in the second round of Wimbledon on Wednesday.
