The Anaheim Ducks traded defenseman Olen Zellweger of Calgary, Alberta and centre Mason McTavish of Pembroke, Ontario on Friday according to Rogers Sportsnet. The Ducks first traded Zellweger to the Buffalo Sabres for centre Anton Wahlberg and a second round pick in the 2026 National Hockey League Entry Draft (45th overall). Anaheim then traded McTavish to the St. Louis Blues for two first round picks in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft (15th and 29th overall picks).
The Ducks selected right winger Nikita Klepov 15th overall. They then traded the 29th overall pick to the Vegas Golden Knights. In the second round, the Ducks selected defenseman Jayden Kurtz.
Zellweger is joining his third NHL franchise after three seasons with the Ducks. In 2025-26, he had seven goals and 15 assists for 22 points in 76 games. Zellweger was a +4 with 34 penalty minutes, three power-play points, one game-winning goal, 119 shots on goal, 85 blocked shots, 33 hits, 19 takeaways, and 64 giveaways. Zellweger’s game-winning goal came on November 17, 2025 in a 3-2 Ducks win over the Utah Mammoth. Zellweger scored an overtime winner on an all-Canadian goal at 1:50 of the extra period. Beckett Sennecke of Toronto, Ontario and Alex Killorn of Halifax, Nova Scotia had the assists.
McTavish is joining his second NHL franchise after five seasons with the Ducks. In 2025-26, he had 17 goals and 24 assists for 41 points in 75 games. He was a -15 with 42 penalty minutes, 11 power-play points, three game-winning goals, 146 shots on goal, 373 faceoff wins, 33 blocked shots, 95 hits, 16 takeaways and 55 giveaways.
