As part of the 37th FIDMarseille (see the news), the 18th edition of the FIDLab has selected 11 projects (out of 477 applications), which will be presented to industry professionals on 9 and 10 July. The jury will be composed of Greek director-producer Athina Rachel Tsangari, artistic advisor and programmer Wim Vanacker (First Cut Lab, Cannes Film Festival) and sales agent Olivier Barbier (Lucky Number). The Marseille-based international co-production platform has also chosen to spotlight Germany this year.
Among the selected projects are new works by Elena López Riera (El agua, Directors’ Fortnight 2022), Amin Motallebzadeh (Conference of the Birds), Muhammed Hamdy (Perfumed with Mint, Venice International Film Critics’ Week 2024), the USA’s Tyler Taormina (Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point, Directors’ Fortnight 2024) and Canada’s Sofia Bohdanowic (selected for the Berlinale Forum 2019 with MS Slavic 7 and for Toronto Centrepiece 2024 with Measures for a Funeral).
Since 2019, FIDLab has offered an annual country focus to spotlight key production companies on the contemporary film scene. After Bulgaria, Greece, Belgium, Portugal, Lithuania, the Czech Republic and Poland, FIDLab is honouring Germany this year. As part of this, three German production companies (Fünferfilm, Amerikafilm, Klinkerfilm) have been invited to take part in FIDLab in order to present their current projects and participate in professional meetings. The focus is organised with the support of German Films.
