The Winnipeg Blue Bombers were without four offensive starters during practice on Monday. The team issued its official report in the late afternoon.
Running back Brady Oliveira (knee), receiver Nic Demski (ankle), and offensive linemen Stanley Bryant (knee) and Jarell Broxton (knee) were each non-participants.
This was the team’s first time on the practice field since its loss to the Calgary Stampeders on Friday night. Head coach Mike O’Shea didn’t provide any specific injury updates after practice.
Broxton was the only one of the four who left the team’s defeat against Calgary. 3DownNation reporter John Hodge indicated his knee was iced in the locker room postgame.
The 33-year-old became one of the CFL’s highest-paid offensive linemen when he joined the Blue Bombers in free agency. The All-CFL selection is the team’s starter at right tackle.
Derek Taylor, the team’s play-by-play announcer for 680 CJOB, reported that Micah Vanterpool filled in for Broxton at right tackle, while Hunter Poncius replaced Stanley Bryant at left tackle.
Oliveira has rushed 93 times for 551 yards, caught 19 passes for 126 yards, and scored four touchdowns this season. The Winnipeg native seemed upset following his team’s 52-30 loss to Calgary, indicating he doesn’t know what the identity of the offence is supposed to be.
Demski has made 34 receptions for 476 yards and three touchdowns this season. The five-time All-West Division selection is the team’s leading receiver.
Vanterpool (knee), defensive lineman De’Shaan Dixon (hip), and linebackers Brody Clark (thigh) and Jaiden Woodbey (calf) were each full participants.
Defensive back Nick Hallett (knee) did not participate.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (4-3) will host the B.C. Lions (1-5) at Princess Auto Stadium on Thursday, July 30 with kickoff scheduled for 8:30 p.m. EDT. The Lions lost a one-sided game to the Toronto Argonauts last week, while the Blue Bombers suffered a blowout defeat to the Calgary Stampeders.
The weather forecast in Winnipeg calls for a high of 30 degrees and a mix of sun and cloud. The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune in on 730 CKNW (English) or Sher-E-Punjab Radio AM 600 (Punjabi) in Vancouver or 680 CJOB in Winnipeg.
