    LOS ANGELES — While Hollywood’s film studio lots have been quiet this year, on Sunday evening, Vogue brought them back to their bustling glory – at least for one night – in its nostalgia-fuelled ode to movie fashion.

    Held at the Paramount Studios lot on the evening of Oct. 26 in Hollywood, the fashion magazine’s fourth annual Vogue World runway extravaganza brought together fashion labels and some of the film industry’s most acclaimed costume designers to create looks for a high-energy runway show down the pathway between production facilities.

    Models and A-list celebrities pranced, danced, and sometimes sprinted down the catwalk alongside a cacophony of film set workers driving carts and pulling wardrobe racks, lights and dollies of electronic equipment and props. Opening with Nicole Kidman in a Chanel look inspired by the 1946 movie “Put the Blame on Mame,” looks reimagined classic films from across the decades, ranging from “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and “Clueless” to “Black Panther” and “The Royal Tenenbaums” — with the latter featuring a Margot Tenenbaum lookalike that elicited laughs from front-row audience member Gwyneth Paltrow.

    Participating fashion houses were each paired with a prominent costume designer to create the wardrobe for the show. Alexander McQueen teamed up with Oscar-winning Colleen Atwood to reimagine her looks for films such as “Edward Scissorhands” with an elaborate recreation of the sharp fingers demonstrated theatrically by their model. Louis Vuitton partnered with Milena Canonero for a reinvention of her looks on films like “Marie Antoinette,” while Balmain’s collection with Ruth E. Carter included a “Black Panther”-inspired dance performance and Catherine Martin’s “Great Gatsby” designs were interpreted in high-glamour designs created with Miu Miu. Other design partnerships showcased were Arianne Phillips with Marc Jacobs, Sandy Powell with Valentino and Jacqueline West with Alaïa.

    The A-list audience, which included celebrities such as Hailey Bieber, Tracee Ellis Ross, Cynthia Erivo and Miley Cyrus cheered along to performances by Gracie Abrams, who donned Chanel, and Doja Cat in a Tina Turner-inspired look.

    Created in 2022 with a goal of helping to revitalise New York’s post-pandemic fashion scene, each subsequent year, Vogue World has moved to support new cities including London and Paris. The Los Angeles version focussed on re-energising of the city’s slumping film industry as local production levels hit new lows in 2025 and many industry professionals were affected by January’s wildfires. Among the front-row show viewers was California governor Gavin Newsom, who in an earlier press conference for the event shared his support for tax incentives to bring filming back to Hollywood. The event donated 100 percent of ticket proceeds to the Entertainment Community Fund to support costume designers impacted by the fires.

    Vogue, Louis Vuitton and the State of Fashion Media

    Emma Stone’s Vuitton-only shoot was billed as an artistic tribute — not a commercial deal. Yet it highlights the increasingly blurred lines between the brands that fund fashion magazines and the images they publish.
