Young is an actor known for appearing in a number of soaps. First starting in 19997, he portrayed Rick Forrester on The Bold and the Beautiful.
Following this, Young played Lucky Spencer on General Hospital. He also played JR Chandler on All My Children. He’s also appeared as his characters on other soaps, including The Young and the Restless and One Life to Live.
Recently, Young made an appearance on the “Imperfectly Perfect Podcast.” During the moment, while discussing the “price of fame,” he opened up about his own experience with opioid addiction. At the time, he shared that this followed a surgery-related prescription he received.
Reflecting on the past, Young also felt that the addiction was his way of coping with the impact of his early years. He shared that, while he started smoking marijuana as a teenager, he wasn’t much of a drinker until his soap stardom took off. This saw him embrace the New York City nightlife, with him soon starting using cocaine.

However, Young felt he left that life behind after his marriage to his wife, Christen Steward. However, after being prescribed Vicodin for dental surgery, he tried opioids for the first time since having his wisdom teeth removed as a kid.
Young shared, “I went through seven years of my life, wasted on opioids. Still trying to figure out what was wrong with me, but I didn’t know. It was just needing to numb… It was the only thing that made me feel normal.”
Young claimed that no one knew about his addiction, even his wife. He shared that he knew that he needed help, but was afraid of the withdrawal symptoms. However, he felt it was important to talk to his wife. Telling her the truth, he was able to get counseling and doctors to get the support he needed.
During the share, Young admitted that he felt his younger years were an influence on him without him realizing. Looking back at his early life, he shared that he grew up with divorced parents and was the subject of a custody shift. Coming from “humble” origins, there were times when his family relied on welfare. He also endured the loss of his stepmother, described as a “second mom” to him, by suicide. He shared, “I was going through stuff that I didn’t realize that I was ever going to go through, emotionally.”
