Wildfires have become more common in recent years. A wildfire in California in January 2025 destroyed almost 13,000 homes and took several lives. Actor George Clooney and his wife, Amal, fled their home with their 9-year-old twins amid raging wildfires nearby. Keep reading for all the details.
George Clooney Reveals Why He Lives In France
George Clooney became one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actors after gaining fame on the NBC drama ER. But his personal life nearly overshadowed his career. He dated some of the most beautiful women in the world, including soap star Krista Allen and WWE diva Stacy Keibler. However, he said many times that he would never marry again after divorcing his first wife in 1993.
That all changed when he met Amal Alamuddin in 2013. He married the human rights lawyer a year after they met. They welcomed twins, Alexander and Ella, in 2017. George Clooney has property in Europe and the U.S. The couple purchased a sprawling estate in France in 2021 and officially became French citizens in 2025.
The actor explained to Esquire why he decided to raise his kids in France instead of Hollywood. “I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life,” he said. “France — they kind of don’t give a s*** about fame. I don’t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids.”

ER Alum Flees Home With Wife, Kids Amid Wildfires
France may be safe from the paparazzi but it isn’t safe from Mother Nature. Smoke from wildfires in Canada blanketed the Northeastern U.S. in July 2026. Now, wildfires are raging across France, Spain, Italy and Greece. George and Amal Clooney’s home is in Brignoles, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region of France, which was heavily affected by the fires.
George Clooney and his wife informed the mayor of Brignoles that they were fleeing their home amid the raging wildfires, PEOPLE magazine confirmed. “Dear Didier, At this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment,” the letter began.
The letter continued, “As we evacuate Brignoles we want to emphasise 2 things, first we hope you and the people of our city are safe and second that Amal and i are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we’ll be part of making it whole. We love Brignoles and our friends who live there.”
The letter didn’t reveal where they plan to go. However, George Clooney owns a villa on Lake Como in Italy and a farm in Kentucky. CNN reported that 3,000 people were evacuated from the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region where the actor’s vineyard is located. Stay tuned for more details about any damage the property sustained.
