When Janai Norman announced she would be leaving Good Morning America in April 2026, her fans were shocked, to say the least. Norman revealed the news in a video posted via Instagram — one in which she said it breaks her heart that she never got the chance to say goodbye on the show.

Several of her GMA and ABC costars quickly voiced their support in the comments section of her post. The network itself has not spoken out about Norman’s exit.

What Janai Norman Said in Her ‘GMA’ Exit Announcement

“I hoped that we’d have more time, and it’s been hard on me that our time was cut short,” Norman said in an April 2026 Instagram video. “I have loved my job. It has been a joy to connect with my coworkers and with viewers, to help keep you informed and entertained, and to create this community.”

She continued, “So it really breaks my heart that I don’t get to say goodbye. I’m so sorry that I don’t get to say goodbye. It would’ve been fun. But I have these three young kids, and I have worked weekends their whole lives, and so now they get more of me. And that is worth everything.”

Norman concluded the clip saying, “So stay tuned. I’m sorry. I feel you, and thank you to every single one of you who has reached out with such kind, validating words. I have needed it, and I appreciate it.”

‘GMA’ and ABC Colleagues Who Spoke Out After Janai Norman’s Departure

That candid farewell — delivered via Instagram rather than from the GMA anchor desk — drew an outpouring of support from colleagues across the network. Here is every GMA and ABC costar who spoke up in the comments of her post.

Longtime GMA anchor Robin Roberts said, “Hope you’re feeling the love from everyone responding. You are a true gem and thoroughly enjoyed working with you. I treasure our friendship❤️.”

Weekend GMA coanchor Whit Johnson wrote, “Truly grateful for the endless memories and moments. Cheering you on through your next adventure ❤️❤️.”

GMA’s Lara Spencer wrote, “That smile. That laugh. That energy. You are so special. ❤️.”

ABC News’ Linsey Davis said, “Your voice, your sense of humor, your versatility and strength— they’ve always stood out. What comes next will rise to meet your light. ❤️.”

ABC News’ Jonathan Karl shared, “I have loved working with you. May the next chapter be your best yet. I predict great things to come.”

GMA alum Cecilia Vega said, “❤️❤️❤️you are a star through and through.”

ABC correspondent Stephanie Ramos said, “My dear friend. From our DC days as newbies to ABC to leveling up in NYC. You have always been talented and genuine. You’re young, lady! Much more ahead! ❤️.”

ABC News’ Deborah Roberts shared, “Wishing you bigger and better journeys ahead. ❤️.”

ABC News’ Rebecca Jarvis penned, “Keep shining bright, Janai! Here’s to all good things ahead💛.”

ABC alum Abby Phillip wrote, “❤️❤️ proud of you and here for you. We know this is just the beginning.”

GMA correspondent Will Ganss wrote, “Your kids are the LUCKIEST for so many reasons, and now even more so. 💚💚💚 I love you 🤍.”

ABC correspondent and GMA contributor Steve Osunsami said, “I luvvvvvvv all of what you’re seeing here. 🙏🏾.”

GMA3: What You Need to Know alum Eva Pilgrim simply wrote, “💚💚💚.”

6 ABC Action News anchor Alicia Vitarelli wrote, “@janai.norman – you are the epitome of professionalism and grace and class and beauty and beyond. Can’t wait to see what’s next for you.”

ABC Recently Announced a New Hire

While the network has stayed silent on Norman’s departure, ABC did recently make a new hire. Leslie Lopez was named ABC News meteorologist after more than a decade at ABC7 Los Angeles. She has served as morning meteorologist for ABC7 since 2016, reporting on weather in Southern California.

She will be working closely with Zee and will appear on Good Morning America and World News Tonight With David Muir. She began her time at the New York studio starting in April 2026.

“Her passion for science, command of weather storytelling, and ability to connect with viewers will make her a tremendous asset to our team and to audiences across all of ABC News’ platforms,” ABC News senior vice president of global newsgathering Katie den Daas said in a press release.
