Google’s new Gmail Live AI feature is now available in beta

You may be spotting a new feature in your inbox soon, as Google is now testing Gmail Live on both Android and iOS.

Essentially, if you missed last month’s Google I/O, Gmail Live lets you search your inbox by voice. Or, as 9to5Google puts it, you can think of it as a version of Gemini Live optimized for emails. Now, Google positions the feature as letting you find information in a conversational way “when you don’t have the time to dig through emails,” even though it doesn’t take much time to type a few keywords.

There is a text equivalent in the search bar as well, which lets you perform natural-language searches and access AI Overviews.

Once the feature is available, you’ll see the standard Live icon in the search bar, with the Gemini side panel button nearby.

Tapping it opens an interface similar to most Gemini Live iterations (the blue hue, mute/unmute, etc.), with a standard greeting. Underneath the greeting, Google cycles through suggested prompts, which include “What are my upcoming travel dates?” and “What are the updates on my latest orders?”

Gmail Live is currently in beta testing and will roll out to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers this summer.
