Season 22 of Grey’s Anatomy just came to an end, and fans were stunned by the finale. Two major cast members exited, and in a twist, there was no major catastrophic send-off. At the same time, there was a lot of drama within the hospital, and one “fired” star is speaking out on a possible return. Keep reading for more details.
Grey’s Anatomy Is Keeping Viewers Tuned In
When it was announced that Season 22 of Grey’s Anatomy would see the exit of Kevin McKidd (Owen) and Kim Raver (Teddy), fans were mixed. On the one hand, they had been around for many seasons, so they were staples. Yet, on the other hand, viewers had grown tired of the two:
- so glad the characters are leaving. They definitely over stayed their welcome. I do hope the Kevin and Kim find other projects to work on. They are talented actors, it’s their characters on Grey’s that was lacking.
It was assumed that they would leave in a very traumatic manner, as these characters often do. However, they walked off into the sunset, and it was a peaceful ending. At the same time, one cast member was “fired” at the end of the season finale.
Dr. Benson “Blue” Kwan, portrayed by Harry Shum Jr., was fired by Dr. Richard Webber at the end of the episode. He had originally been benched for giving a cancer patient a trial medication that had been rejected by the FDA, but when the bridge collapsed, Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) pulled Dr. Kwan back in for assistance. Dr. Webber was shocked and angered, but Teddy did not care. She said all hands on deck, and that’s what she meant. Dr. Kwan assumed that, because he handled the patients well, he would be welcomed back, but Webber didn’t see it that way. So, what does that mean for the actor?

Will he be back on Grey’s Anatomy for Season 23? As of now, Harry Shum Jr. has no idea what his future holds. He has been on the show since Season 19, but thinks that it’s all in the hands of the audience.
In The Dark
Right now, it is certain that two people will not be back next season on Grey’s Anatomy. However, Kim Raver and Kevin McKidd could always pop in if they are asked. As for Harry Shum Jr., he had this to say about his character:
“I’m just as much in the dark as audiences. But to me, it’s a hope of: Do audiences want to see him go or do they want to see him go back to the hospital?”
Viewers seem to want him back and are happy with how Owen and Teddy headed off to Paris as a family:
- I like the characters Owen and Teddy, I am going to miss them, but I did like their send-off. As far as the character of Kwan I like him too and I am hoping for an appropriate return.
