Mackenzie Shirilla was 17 when a car she was driving slammed into a brick wall. Both of her male passengers were killed. Whether she crashed the car on purpose is a huge topic of debate online after newfound interest in her case. A judge ruled that she did and sent her to prison for double homicide.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard spent seven years in prison for her role in her mother’s murder. Her prison release and return to society were documented on reality TV. She welcomed her first child in 2024. She broke her silence and shared her thoughts on Mackenzie Shirilla’s case. Keep reading to find out what she had to say about it.

Mackenzie Shirilla Topic Of New Documentary

In the early morning hours of July 31, 2022, a car Mackenzie Shirilla was driving crashed into a brick wall at an estimated 100 mph. Her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, 20, and their friend, Davion Flanagan, 19, died instantly. She was severely injured but survived.

The evidence from the crash led investigators to believe it was done on purpose. Only Mackenzie Shirilla truly knows what happened. However, the police accused her of intentionally accelerating and crashing the car. A judge agreed. She was convicted of murder and sentenced to two concurrent terms of 15 years to life in prison. She’s up for parole in 2037.

The incident happened nearly five years ago. However, it’s the talk of social media at the moment. Netflix debuted a documentary on the case earlier this month. Mackenzie Shirilla sat down for a rare interview from prison. Her parents claim that Mackenzie Shirilla suffered some kind of medical episode that led to the crash. She admitted in the Netflix series that she doesn’t remember the moments leading up to the accident but denied it was intentional.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for her role in the death of her mother, Clauddinnea “Dee Dee” Blanchard. She was stabbed to death by her daughter’s boyfriend at the time. Nick Godejohn was sentenced to life in prison for the crime.

The details of the murders are very different. It’s widely believed that Gypsy Rose’s mother abused her and forced unnecessary medical procedures on her since early childhood. According to Gypsy Rose Blanchard, there is one huge difference between her and Mackenzie Shirilla. She has remorse for her mother’s death, whereas Mackenzie Shirilla has none.

Gypsy Rose broke her silence on the case in an interview with TMZ. She said that the Netflix documentary did Mackenzie Shirilla “no favors.”

“The time that she’s in prison right now, she needs to grow up and take accountability. Remorse is something that maybe is not coming natural right now because maybe it’s something she hasn’t dealt with, internally and emotionally. But it’s going to hit her like a train,” Gypsy Rose said.

She added that she doubts Mackenzie Shirilla will get parole because of a lack of remorse. Tell us in the comments if you agree with her.
