Fans have often seen Heather Rae and Tarek El Moussa transform and sell million-dollar homes on television. However, there is still a lot of work that goes into these projects that fans don’t always see. Recently, Heather took to social media to answer a few fan questions. However, the reality star had a few choice words for one question in particular.
HGTV’s Heather Rae El Moussa Discussed A Lot Of What Her Parents & In-Laws Went Through
Heather became known to many after appearing on multiple seasons of Selling Sunset, a Netflix reality show that focuses on luxury homes in Los Angeles. Originally a model, she obtained her real estate license in 2014.
In her personal life, Heather married HGTV star Tarek El Moussa in 2021. Over the years, she has appeared in a number of HGTV shows, including The Flipping El Moussas, The Flip Off, and Flipping 101.
In a since expired post, as shared by EntertainmentNow, Heather answered fan questions during an Instagram Story on July 8. At the time, however, she took issue with one comment concerning her personal finances. As the fan asked, “How does it feel to never have to worry about money?”
Heather initially took issue with the question, but agreed to answer it. She shared, “So, I think that’s a very unfair, rude question. But, I’m glad that you asked because I’m sure other people just assume things about me as well, and my husband.”
The reality star noted that she came from a “working-class family.” She continued, “We did not have a lot of money. My parents were raised… Well, my dad, especially, was very poor growing up.”
The HGTV Star Also Explained Why The Next Season Of The Flip Off Is Taking A While
Heather also noted that she “never really saw” her dad growing up because he worked so often as a truck driver. She continued, “He would leave about 5:30 in the morning and get home at 8 o’clock at night to support our family.”
Meanwhile, Heather’s mother worked as a hairstylist before taking a break to raise her and her sister. She continued, “When she went back to work, she became a librarian at an elementary school to be around me more and my sister.”

As for Tarek, Heather noted that her husband’s parents also faced their own struggles. She continued, “Tarek’s family came from another country and started their lives here. And built everything fresh, from scratch. So we didn’t come from money. Tarek and I, both separately and together, worked very hard to get to where we are today.”
Meanwhile, the couple will soon return to HGTV for the second season of The Flip Off. During the Instagram Story Q&A, she also explained why filming is taking longer than expected. She shared, “Because we are flipping houses, sometimes we have to take a little, tiny hiatus and let the house catch up because, you know, it’s construction and things can take a little bit longer, especially in a competition. There’s things that happen. But, yeah. So, we’re filming Season 2 right now.”
