As the IPL 2026 playoff race reaches a tense stage, Delhi Capitals have been forced into major changes ahead of their crucial home clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. One of the biggest talking points before the match has been the absence of South African fast bowler Lungi Ngidi from DC’s playing XI.

Ngidi’s absence has prompted Delhi to reshuffle their bowling combination as they try to recover from a painful defeat and keep their playoff hopes alive.

Why Lungi Ngidi is not playing today’s game?

The Capitals were left concerned after Ngidi picked up the injury in their last outing against Punjab Kings. The pacer reportedly suffered a serious blow to the head while fielding, forcing the team management and medical staff to take extra precautions.

Given the nature of the injury, Delhi decided not to risk him for such an important fixture. Head injuries are always treated with extra care in modern cricket, and the franchise chose player safety over rushing him back into action.

Ngidi’s absence is a major setback because of the control and experience he brings during the middle and death overs. His pace and ability to break partnerships have made him a reliable option for skipper Axar Patel throughout the campaign.

Kyle Jamieson and Dushmantha Chameera get a chance

To fill the gap left by Ngidi, Delhi Capitals have introduced fresh overseas pace options in the form of Kyle Jamieson and Dushmantha Chameera. Jamieson has been handed his first cap for the franchise and is expected to use his height and bounce effectively on the Delhi pitch. His ability to trouble batters with steep lift could prove valuable against RCB’s strong batting lineup.

Meanwhile, Chameera adds outright pace and aggression. The Sri Lankan quick is known for bowling hard lengths and attacking with the new ball, giving DC a different dimension in their bowling attack. The changes clearly reflect Delhi’s urgency after failing to defend a huge total in their previous match.

    Sahil Parakh makes his debut

Apart from the bowling changes, Delhi have also made a surprise move in the batting department. Young batter Sahil Parakh has been handed his IPL debut and will open the innings.

He replaces Pathum Nissanka, while Indian pacer Mukesh Kumar also misses out. The team management appears keen to inject fresh energy into the side as they search for momentum in the business end of the tournament. Mitchell Starc, although included in the squad, is still not part of the playing XI and is expected to make his debut for DC in early May.

    RCB stick with winning combination

On the other side, Royal Challengers Bengaluru have shown faith in continuity. Sitting comfortably in second place on the points table, RCB have gone unchanged for this big contest. Despite minor concerns around Rasikh Salam Dar’s fitness, the seamer has been cleared to play. With Phil Salt still unavailable, Jacob Bethell continues to open alongside Virat Kohli, while Rajat Patidar leads a settled side full of confidence.
