In the high-stakes environment of the 41st match of IPL 2026, the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai is set to witness a classic encounter between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Historically a fortress for the five-time champions, Mumbai find themselves in a precarious position this season, languishing at the bottom half of the table.

Today’s clash, held on April 29, 2026, carries immense weight for Hardik Pandya‘s men as they face a formidable Hyderabad side led by Pat Cummins. However, the pre-match buzz was dominated by a major selection shock at the toss: the absence of Mumbai’s batting mainstay, Quinton de Kock.

Why Quinton de Kock is not playing against Sunrisers Hyderabad in today’s match?

The primary reason De Kock is not playing in today’s match is a sudden wrist injury sustained during a practice session. The news came as a significant blow to the MI camp, especially since De Kock has been one of their most consistent performers this season, recently smashing a brilliant century against Punjab Kings.

During the toss, Mumbai Indians skipper Pandya confirmed the development, explaining that the South African opener “did something to his wrist” just before the game. Pandya emphasized that while the injury was unfortunate, the team had to reset quickly.

“Mitchell (Santner) was unfortunate, and so was Quinny today. He just did something to his wrist,” Pandya stated. “It was important for all of us to just reset, not get too complicated… we’ve had a good couple of sessions and ticked all the boxes,” Pandya stated during the toss.

The absence of De Kock forced a major reshuffle in the top order. South African explosive batter Ryan Rickelton has been drafted into the XI to fill the void, also taking over the wicketkeeping duties. Adding to Mumbai’s woes, Hardik also confirmed that veteran opener Rohit Sharma remains unavailable as he continues his recovery from a hamstring issue, stating that Rohit might need “a couple more games” to reach full fitness.

Playing XI and impact substitutes of both the teams

To compensate for the loss of their primary openers, Mumbai has handed a debut to Robin Minz and included Will Jacks to bolster the batting depth. Sunrisers Hyderabad, meanwhile, remains a stable unit, making minimal changes to their winning combination.

Mumbai Indians (Playing XI): Ryan Rickelton(w), Will Jacks, Naman Dhir, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya(c), Robin Minz, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, AM Ghazanfar, Ashwani Kumar

Sunrisers Hyderabad (Playing XI): Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ishan Kishan(w), Heinrich Klaasen, Salil Arora, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Pat Cummins(c), Harsh Dubey, Sakib Hussain, Praful Hinge, Eshan Malinga

Mumbai Indians Impact Subs: Mayank Rawat, Raghu Sharma, Shardul Thakur, Krish Bhagat, Raj Bawa

Sunrisers Hyderabad Impact subs: Smaran Ravichandran, Aniket Verma, Liam Livingstone, Shivang Kumar, Harshal Patel
