The question surrounding Mayank Yadav‘s availability has been one of the biggest talking points for fans of the Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2026. With the tournament gaining momentum, supporters have been eagerly waiting to see the express pacer back in action. Ahead of LSG’s crucial clash against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, team director Tom Moody has finally provided clarity on the youngster’s status, offering a major boost to the franchise.

Tom Moody provides update on Mayank Yadav’s availibility

Mayank’s absence from the initial matches had sparked speculation, especially given his reputation as one of India’s fastest emerging bowlers. However, Moody addressed the concerns by explaining that the pacer was not sidelined due to fitness issues, but rather due to a lack of match readiness.

According to Moody, Mayank had successfully recovered from his injury setbacks but needed more time to build confidence in his bowling workload. Having spent a long period on the sidelines due to injuries and rehabilitation, the team management chose to ease him back rather than rush his return.

The young pacer’s last IPL outing came during the previous season, where he featured in just two matches. One of those appearances turned out to be a tough outing, where he conceded heavily, further highlighting the need for careful management of his comeback. In a significant update ahead of the RCB clash, Moody confirmed that Mayank is now fully prepared to take the field. He emphasized that while the pacer’s fitness was never in doubt, the team wanted him to regain rhythm and comfort in match situations.

“Mayank is ready to go. He didn’t come into our thinking early in the tournament because he was still a little underdone – not from a fitness point of view, as his fitness was good – but in terms of bowling loads and feeling comfortable at the crease,” said Moody.

Moody’s statement has come as a major relief for LSG fans, who have been eagerly tracking Mayank’s return. His raw pace and ability to trouble batters could add a new dimension to the bowling attack, especially in high-pressure games. Whether he makes the playing XI against RCB will ultimately depend on team combination and match conditions, but the confirmation of his readiness puts him firmly in contention.

LSG’s mixed start to IPL 2026

Led by Rishabh Pant, LSG have had an inconsistent start to their campaign, winning two and losing two of their first four matches. Their season began with a setback at home, but they quickly bounced back with impressive away victories, showcasing resilience. However, their momentum was halted again with a defeat in their most recent outing, leaving them in the middle of the points table. The team has shown flashes of brilliance but is yet to deliver consistent performances as a unit.

LSG’s campaign so far has been marked by individual performances rather than collective dominance. While experienced overseas players like Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and Nicholas Pooran are yet to consistently fire, young players have stepped up when needed. On the bowling front, the unit has looked relatively strong, with senior pacer Mohammed Shami leading the attack effectively. The potential inclusion of Mayank could further strengthen this department and provide the cutting edge LSG has been missing.
