India‘s T20I squad may have found a settled core, but former all-rounder Irfan Pathan believes there is still room for fresh faces before the next ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Pathan has strongly backed Rajat Patidar for a place in India’s T20I setup, arguing that the right-handed batter offers an important balance to the batting order at a time when the team is packed with left-handers.

Sharing his views on social media platform X, Pathan said India should use the time available before the next global event to test new combinations, with Patidar among the players who deserve a consistent opportunity.

Irfan Pathan explains why Rajat Patidar should be included in India’s T20I team

Pathan’s endorsement of Patidar was based on India’s current batting composition rather than just recent performances. According to the former India cricketer, the growing number of left-handed batters in the T20I side makes the inclusion of a dependable right-handed middle-order batter even more valuable.

“Looking at the number of left-hand batters in the Indian T20 team right now, it’s even more of a reason for Team India to look at Rajat Patidar going forward. I really hope he gets an opportunity, especially since there is still plenty of time for Team India to experiment before the next T20 World Cup,” Pathan wrote on X.

His comments come at a time when India’s T20 setup continues to evolve under a new generation of players. While several left-handed batters have cemented their places, selectors are still assessing options capable of strengthening the middle order and providing tactical flexibility against different bowling attacks. Pathan believes Patidar fits that requirement and could become an important option if given a sustained run rather than sporadic appearances.

Patidar’s rise strengthens his case for India recall

Patidar has steadily built a reputation as one of India’s most reliable stroke-makers in white-ball cricket. Known for his fearless approach against both pace and spin, the right-hander has impressed in franchise cricket and domestic competitions with his ability to accelerate without compromising consistency.

His performances in high-pressure matches have also earned praise from several former cricketers, many of whom believe he possesses the temperament required for international cricket. The 33-year-old has already represented India in limited opportunities, but he has yet to establish himself as a regular member of the T20I squad. With the selectors continuing to rotate players and build depth ahead of the next World Cup cycle, Patidar remains firmly in contention.
