Dead or alive, you’re coming with me! RoboCop is set to be revived once again in a new series at Amazon MGM Studios.
Director James Wan, known for his smash-hit horror films The Conjuring, Insidious, and Saw, is set to helm several episodes, confirms Dark Horizons. Meanwhile, Wan’s production company, Atomic Monster, which recently produced horror sensation Backrooms, will produce the new series. As of now, there is little information regarding the plot or cast, but Peter Ocko (Lodge 49 and The Office) will write and showrun the series.
The original RoboCop, directed by Paul Verhoeven back in 1987, is set in a dystopian future where crime has overtaken the city of Detroit. While on duty, officer Alex Murphy (Peter Weller) is killed, but is soon resurrected through a revolutionary procedure run by the OCP corporation, which transforms him into a powerful cyborg officer programmed to uphold the law. The action-packed yet highly satirical film explores themes of corporate greed and the moralities of what it is to be human.
The original RoboCop has accrued cult status today and was followed by several sequels, as well as a poorly received remake in 2014.
The Amazon MGM RoboCop series is set to begin shooting in January 2027.
