New Zealand produced a disciplined all-round display to defeat West Indies by six wickets in the third match at the Providence Stadium. After opting to bowl first, the visitors bundled West Indies out for just 140 before calmly chasing down the target in 39.3 overs with six wickets in hand. Left-arm spinner Jayden Lennox was the standout performer, claiming four wickets to earn the Player of the Match award.

Jayden Lennox and Mitchell Santner sizzle with the ball to restrict West Indies at 140

New Zealand’s decision to bowl first paid immediate dividends as their bowlers maintained tight lines and never allowed the West Indies batters to settle. John Campbell fell cheaply for six, while Ackeem Auguste offered early resistance with a brisk 26 off 27 balls that included four boundaries. Keacy Carty anchored the innings with a patient 48 from 77 deliveries, striking six fours, but he struggled to find substantial support from the other end. Captain Shai Hope managed only eight, while Sherfane Rutherford added four before both fell to the disciplined New Zealand attack.

Shimron Hetmyer briefly lifted the scoring rate with an entertaining 26 off 28 balls, smashing two sixes, but his dismissal ended any hopes of a late surge. The lower order failed to contribute significantly as West Indies were bowled out for 140 in 37.1 overs. Lennox led the bowling effort with figures of 4 for 52 from his 10 overs, consistently breaking partnerships. Mitchell Santner was equally economical, conceding just 15 runs while taking two wickets in 8.1 overs. Michael Bracewell also chipped in with two wickets, while Jacob Duffy claimed one as New Zealand’s bowlers combined effectively to keep the hosts under pressure throughout the innings.

New Zealand complete composed chase despite a few setbacks

Chasing a modest target of 141, New Zealand made a cautious start through Will Young and Henry Nicholls. The pair added useful runs before Young departed for 23 off 42 balls, while Nicholls contributed 24 from 48 deliveries. West Indies found brief encouragement when Vitel Lawes struck three times, dismissing Mark Chapman for seven and later removing Daryl Mitchell after his valuable 28 off 49 balls. However, the target never looked out of New Zealand’s reach.

Tom Latham played a composed innings of 31 from 53 balls, ensuring the chase remained on course before Dean Foxcroft finished the job with an unbeaten 22 off 28 deliveries. The visitors reached 141 for 4 in 39.3 overs to seal a comfortable six-wicket victory. For West Indies, Lawes was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 39, while Khary Pierre claimed the other wicket. Despite their efforts, the modest total left the bowlers with very little margin for error.
