The West Indies kicked off their home series against Pakistan with a 90-run victory on Day 4 of the 1st Test at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba. Driven by high-octane fast bowling and key individual performances, the hosts successfully defended a 211-run target, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, the West Indies compiled a competitive first-innings total of 311. Shai Hope led the charge with a patient 92, supported by Kavem Hodge‘s solid 84. Pakistan’s bowlers responded with discipline, as seamers Mohammad Ali (4/50) and Mohammad Abbas (3/63) kept the scoring in check. In response, Pakistan posted 282, buoyed by Shan Masood’s fighting 109 and Imam-ul-Haq’s 63. Player of the Match Justin Greaves turned the tide with a remarkable 5/27 to restrict the visitors, leaving the West Indies with a narrow 29-run first-innings cushion.

The third day set the stage for a tense battle as Pakistan’s bowling unit mounted a stern fightback during the West Indies’ second attempt with the bat. Mohammad Abbas delivered a masterclass in seam presentation, dismantling the West Indies top order. Abbas took 5/22 in 15.5 overs, leaving the host batters struggling to find their rhythm.

The hosts slumped to 43/4 before Tagenarine Chanderpaul (35) provided stability. Valuable lower-order runs from Shamar Joseph (38 off 27) and Kemar Roach (18 off 63) pushed the total to 181, setting Pakistan a target of 211.

Jayden Seales claims a five-wicket haul as West Indies defeat Pakistan on Day 4 in Tarouba

Chasing 211 on a deteriorating Day 4 pitch, Pakistan faced an immediate onslaught from the West Indies pace quartet. Jayden Seales spearheaded the attack with lethal precision, reducing Pakistan’s top and middle order to rubble. Seales removed Azan Awais (3), Salman Agha (0), Shan Masood (3), and Khurram Shahzad (4) in rapid succession as Pakistan crumbled to 71/9.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam waged a lonely battle, scoring an unbeaten 58 off 107 balls. He found late support in last-man Abbas, who chipped in with a career-best 23 during a 49-run 10th-wicket partnership to delay the eventual result. However, Seales returned to break the rearguard stand, trapping Abbas lbw to wrap up the match shortly after tea.

Seales finished with figures of 5/20 in 14.2 overs (economy rate of 1.39), recording his fifth career Test five-wicket haul and securing a memorable 90-run win for the home side.
