Tyler Stevenson recently made his Jeopardy! debut. Following his appearance on the show, he took to social media to open up about issues within his family. He also shared his thoughts about the game’s ultimate outcome.
Recent Jeopardy! Contestant Tyler Stevenson Learned He Would Be On The Show While Teaching His Class
Stevenson is a special education teacher from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, who appeared on the recent June 18 episode of Jeopardy!. At the time, he played against policy analyst Nora Inman and attorney and theater producer Adam Remsen.
Stevenson did not win the game after a failed Daily Double, ending with $9,199. Placing second after Remsen, he took $3,000 home with him. Meanwhile, Remsen won $27,000, securing a place in the Tournament of Champions.
Following his appearance on the show, Stevenson took to social media to share that it had been a trying time for his family, as his father underwent major surgery right before his episode aired. As he shared, “Today was an eventful day for me.”
As Stevenson explained, My father underwent surgery today to remove his gallbladder and part of his small intestine.” Fortunately, he assured that things had worked out, writing, “I just received word before the show aired that his surgery was a success and that he should recover quickly. I’m grateful.”
Stevenson Also Shared That, In Spite Of What Happened, Two Of His Mother’s Dreams Came True
While the story had a positive update, Stevenson shared that these struggles helped motivate him to appear on the show and do his best. He explained, “After almost losing my dad some years ago, I wanted to get on @jeopardy so badly, so that he and my mom could see me achieve my dream before they passed away.”
Explaining his audition process, Stevenson continued, “When I auditioned for Jeopardy this year, I was just hoping to get to a 2nd test. When I not only passed the 2nd test, but that they wanted me as a contestant, I was blown away. I was literally in the middle of teaching class when I received the call!”
Ultimately, while Stevenson came in second place on the game, he assured that he was still in good spirits. He explained, “I might not have won today, but today’s watch party with my friends reminded me that I’m still a winner and that I’m still loved all the same.”
Stevenson also shared that his mother got to live out some of her dreams, too. Not only did she get to watch her son on the game show, but she also got to visit Los Angeles for the first time.
In the days leading up to his appearance on the show, Stevenson also shared a number of photos of himself on the set. He even shared a selfie alongside series host Ken Jennings.
