Joe Biden really hoped to win a second term as President of the United States. However, he dropped out in the middle of the race amid concerns that his health was declining. Vice President Kamala Harris ran against former President Donald Trump in the election that year and lost. She later blamed Biden for the loss.
Former First Lady Jill Biden is ready to tell her side of the story. She opened up for the first time about her husband’s declining health and other juicy topics from her time in the White House. Keep reading for more details.
Battle Of The First Ladies
Jill Biden spent a lot of time in the White House years ago when her husband was Vice President. However, her role as First Lady was quite different. She detailed all about it in her new memoir, View from the East Wing. During her time at the White House, she had several interactions with First Lady Melania Trump.
According to Jill Biden’s memoir, President Trump’s wife is “polite” but not overly welcoming. Melania Trump reportedly declined an invitation to ceremonial inauguration tea in 2024 and declined to host one in 2021. Jill Biden also claimed that the First Lady kept changing the topic to the weather during the awkward car ride to the inauguration in 2024.
She Thought Her Husband Had Stroke During Debate
Joe Biden was in a tight race with Donald Trump for the presidency in 2024. But Biden’s campaign hit a huge setback after a debate between the two in June 2024. Biden’s answers were incoherent, to put it nicely.
Jill Biden admitted in her new book that she thought her husband might have had a stroke or been drugged after his shockingly poor debate performance. He dropped out of the race a month later. The Democratic Party chose his Vice President Kamala Harris to replace him in the race.
“To this day, I still don’t know what happened,” Jill Biden wrote in her book about the debate.

Jill Biden Opens Up About Former President’s Declining Health
Joe Biden’s age and cognitive ability were hotly debated in the press in the months leading up to the election. He revealed shortly after dropping out of the race that he had been diagnosed with Stage 4 prostate cancer.
Jill Biden appeared on several talk shows this week to promote her new book. She opened up about former President Biden’s, 83, health while on The View. “It’s in his bones, but he’s keeping up his schedule, he’s going to D.C. on Amtrak a couple of times a month, he’s speaking at Democratic rallies, he’s writing, so he’s active, he’s Joe,” she said.
The former First Lady was asked if she thought he could have served a second term if he had been elected. She admitted that he probably wouldn’t have been able to because of his declining health. However, she was talking about the cancer, not his perceived mental decline.
“Well, not from what I know now. I mean, my God, who knew? I mean, it was so shocking to get that cancer diagnosis,” she admitted to The View hosts about her husband’s ability to serve a second term.
Jill Biden’s View from the East Room is available in bookstores now. It discusses many other aspects of her time in the White House.
