The Kentucky senator was admitted to a hospital on June 14, 2026, following a fall in his Washington, D.C., home. Doctors confirmed that he did not suffer a stroke, heart attack, concussion, or broken bones. However, he reportedly contracted mild pneumonia during his care. He was later transferred to a physical rehabilitation center before returning to his senatorial duties.
Recently, McConnell’s staff shared an update on social media. Taking to X, they shared a lengthy statement, complete with a photo of McConnell alongside his wife, Elaine Chao.
At the time, McConnell shared, “I’ll keep working hard to get back on the Senate floor as soon as possible. And I’ll keep you posted on the progress of my recovery. Until then, I’m so grateful for your prayers and well wishes.”

Since then, Jimmy Kimmel poked fun at the share, complete with a mock photo of himself in a hospital bed in lieu of McConnell, with his face superimposed over the senator’s. He could still be seen alongside Chao. In a caption, Kimmel shared, “For those who’ve been asking, I’m feeling great.”
As fans know, Kimmel has been known for taking summer breaks from his show over the years. He signed off on his latest break on June 18, with Tiffany Haddish kicking off the line of guest-hosts. Kimmel is set to make his return after Labor Day.
