President Donald Trump and the First Lady have been married for over two decades. Their lack of affection while in public has sparked a lot of social media commentary since his first term in office. Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel revealed his role in rekindling the flame between President Trump and the First Lady. Keep reading for more details on the claim.
President Trump Jokes About Marriage Not Lasting
President Trump was married twice before he met his current wife. He was previously married to Ivana Trump and Marla Maples. His marriage to Melania Trump hasn’t always been easy. He denied allegations that he cheated on his third wife with porn star Stormy Daniels.
Given his history of divorce, there has been speculation that his marriage to Melania Trump won’t last much longer. The President added fuel to the fire with a joke during a recent speech. The President and First Lady welcomed the King and Queen of England ahead of the 250th anniversary celebration of U.S. independence.
During a speech welcoming the royals to the White House, President Trump shared his mother’s European lineage. His mother, Mary Anne MacLeod, was born in Scotland. “She came to America at 19, met my incredible father, we loved him so much, we all loved him, we loved her, we loved him: Fred. And, they were married for 63 years,” Trump said about his mother.
He then turned to his wife of 21 years, Melania, with an off-the-cuff joke about their marriage. “That’s a record we won’t be able to match, darling. We’ll do well, but we’re not going to do that well,” he said. The joke was about his age, not a hint at a divorce announcement.

How Jimmy Kimmel Rekindled President Trump & First Lady’s Flame
While President Trump was just joking about the end of his marriage, the internet decided long ago that Melania Trump hates her husband. The couple rarely shows any affection in public, and she repeatedly refuses to hold her husband’s hand.
A video clip made the rounds on social media of Melania Trump letting go of her husband’s hand while posing for a photo with the King and Queen. Jimmy Kimmel played the footage during a segment of his late-night talk show. President Trump lightly tapped the First Lady’s hand with his pinky finger until she resumed holding hands.
Jimmy Kimmel joked that the couple bonded over their calls for ABC to cancel his talk show. The host has faced a lot of backlash this week after a joke about Melania Trump being a widow resurfaced after an intruder breached the security check at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Jimmy Kimmel made the joke days before the incident, but President Trump and the First Lady both demanded ABC fire him.
“Considering the week I’ve had with the first couple, I’m just going to say that is a completely normal way to interact for two people who are very much in love,” Jimmy Kimmel joked. “Maybe that’s why his hands are all bruised: from Melania swatting them away.”
