Kane was once again on the scoresheet as Bayern Munich booked their place in the Champions League semi-finals

Harry Kane and Bayern Munich produced another breathtaking display to eliminate Real Madrid and book their place in the Champions League semi-finals on Wednesday night, winning the tie 4-3 on the night and 6-4 on aggregate.

Holding a narrow advantage from the first leg in Spain, Vincent Kompany’s side were relentless in their pursuit of goals in Munich, ultimately resulting in their first knockout success over Madrid since 2012.

The tie appeared to be drifting in Madrid’s favour during the closing stages, but a late Eduardo Camavinga red card gave the hosts enough momentum to get over the line.

Luis Diaz broke the deadlock late on, finishing moments after Madrid’s red card with just minutes left on the clock.

Moments later, Michael Olise put the result beyond doubt with a fantastic stoppage-time strike, capping a ruthless spell that turned the tie on its head.

Kane reacts to dramatic Champions League night

Harry Kane described the encounter as one of the most intense matches of his career.

“What a special night. I mean, a crazy game, to be honest,” Kane said.

“Being a quarter-final, being a big game like it was, to have the ebbs and flows and the highs and lows throughout the first half, especially, was pretty unique.”

The England captain has been central to Bayern’s European campaign and will now look to carry that momentum into the semi-finals as he looks to continue one of the best season’s of his career.

Camavinga red card sparks Real Madrid fury

The closing moments were not without controversy. Camavinga was sent off late in the match after receiving a second yellow card for refusing to give the ball back to Bayern for a free-kick, a decision that prompted angry reactions from the Madrid players.

The Los Blancos stars surrounded the referee at full-time, furious, and they also vented their frustrations post-match.

“I think so, it’s obvious [that the red card decided the game],” Arbeloa told Movistar. “You can’t send a player off for a thing like that. I think the referee didn’t even know that [Camavinga] already had a yellow card.”

Bayern set for PSG semi-final test

For Bayern, attention now turns to a heavyweight semi-final clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

Kane acknowledged the scale of the challenge of facing last year’s winners, but remains confident that his side are good enough to go all the way this year.

“I think it’s a reward for all the hard work”

“One of the best in Europe for sure, reigning European champions for a reason,” he said.

“We obviously had a tough game against them earlier in the Champions League stages. We’ll expect an open game, a lot of man-for-man pressure, a lot of individual quality. Hopefully, we can come out on top.”
