Kathy Griffin has been open about her long history with The View. She previously disclosed that she was “banned” from the talk show but finally returned in April to promote her comedy tour. But she may be back on bad terms after reigniting an old feud with one of the co-hosts. Keep reading for all the latest details on the grudge.
Why Kathy Griffin Turned Down The View Hosting Gig
Kathy Griffin was never a permanent co-host on The View. She has stepped in as a guest host several times over the years. The comedian recently returned to the ABC talk show to promote her new tour. The “New Face, New Tour” is part of her quest to uncancel herself.
The comedian was shunned in 2017 after doing a photo shoot with a bloody head that looked like President Trump. She’s finally making a comeback after losing several big gigs. Another gig she almost had years ago was as host of The View.
She was reportedly offered a spot but turned it down because the offer wasn’t enough money. It was during the height of her fame when her Bravo show, My Life on the D-List, was airing. According to Kathy Griffin, she was then “banned” from The View by Barbara Walters.
Comedian Reignites Explosive Feud With Former Co-Host
After losing out on several TV gigs, Kathy Griffin turned to YouTube to bring content to fans with Talk Your Head Off. In this week’s episode, she dredged up a buried feud with a former co-host on The View.
The walk down memory lane was sparked by Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s return to the ABC talk show in February to fill in for Alyssa Farah Griffin, who was out on maternity leave. Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s return was surprising, partly because of her tense exit in 2013 and comments she made in 2025, calling the show a “sinking ship” and slamming Joy Behar.

Joy Behar welcomed Elisabeth Hasselbeck back with open arms. However, Kathy Griffin blasted the return. “They had that pain in the a**, indignantly stupid Elisabeth Hasselbeck, they had her back for a week,” she said. The comedian claimed that she didn’t watch her former co-host’s return. However, it reminded her of a huge argument they got into when co-hosting together over a decade ago.
“I still make fun of her because she tried to one-up me on a fight,” Kathy Griffin said before playing a short clip of the confrontation. Elisabeth Hasselbeck took issue with the comedian making jokes about the co-hosts.
“She was, I could tell, very thrown that the audience went with me. I was very thrown. So, that made some headlines!” Kathy Griffin recalled. The co-hosts didn’t get along, but their argument was nothing compared to the dust-up between Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Rosie O’Donnell that led to Rosie O’Donnell leaving the show.
Tell us in the comments if you think Kathy Griffin would make a good co-host on The View.
