Katie Couric recently shared words of praise toward Brooke Nevils, who came forward with accusations against Matt Lauer. This comes out after Nevils recently detailed her story in a memoir. Notably, Couric isn’t the only former co-worker of Lauer’s who has expressed support for Nevils.
Katie Couric Previously Worked Alongside Matt Lauer For Nearly A Decade On Today
Katie Couric is a journalist who has worked with a variety of outlets. This includes CNN, CBS News, NBC News, and ABC News. Starting in 2016, she also became the host of her own podcast series, Next Question with Katie Couric.
During her time on NBC’s Today, Couric worked alongside Matt Lauer for nearly a decade. During a recent interview, Couric shared praise for Brooke Nevils, a former NBC employee who had accused Lauer of sexual assault, which he himself had denied.
In particular, Couric held praise for Nevils over her recent memoir, Unspeakable Things: Silence, Shame, and the Stories We Choose to Believe. She spoke about the book while at City Harvest Presents The 2026 Gala: Shaken, Not Stirred on April 21.
Speaking with Page Six, the famous journalist expressed her sympathy, sharing, “I feel terrible for her,” while adding, “I think she’s very brave to write the book.”
Another Today Alum, Ann Curry, Had Also Previously Shared Support Towards Nevils
Couric admitted that she didn’t read all of Nevils’ book, just an “excerpt.” While having worked with Lauer for nearly a decade, she left the show before he was fired in 2017, with the allegations coming to light.
In the memoir, which was released this past February, Nevils recounted the details of her alleged sexual encounters with Lauer. According to an excerpt from the book, as shared by People, she wrote, “I have spent the long years since using my otherwise abandoned skills as a journalist to report and write the book about sexual harassment and assault that I wish had existed for me.”
Couric also isn’t the only Today alum to share support for Nevils. Former host Ann Curry, who also worked alongside Lauer from 2010 to 2011, also shared that she remembered Nevils as “good-hearted and credible, with great potential.” Curry further added, “She is also brave,” sharing similar sentiments with Couric.
As previously reported, Nevils would take a leave of absence from NBC that eventually became permanent. She later shared spending time in a psych ward as she sought mental health treatments. She later married and had two children.
At this time, Lauer has not been charged with any crimes. While he has confirmed a past relationship with Nevils, he had claimed that it was consensual.
