South Africa produced another dominant performance in the Namibia T20I Tri-Series 2026, defeating Zimbabwe by 43 runs at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek. Lhuan-dre Pretorius led the way with a superb 94, while the bowlers kept Zimbabwe under pressure throughout the chase to bowl them out for 142. The result strengthened South Africa’s position at the top of the points table, while Zimbabwe’s hopes of reaching the final suffered another setback after their second defeat of the tournament.

Lhuan-dre Pretorius set up a strong South African total

South Africa made an excellent start after being asked to bat first, with Jordan Hermann and Pretorius adding 68 runs for the opening wicket. Pretorius continued to accelerate after Hermann departed for 28, putting together an 86-run partnership with Dewald Brevis. Brevis contributed a quick 41 before Zimbabwe finally began to pull things back during the latter stages of the innings.

South Africa were 88/1 at the halfway stage and had reached 161/2 by the end of the 16th over, putting themselves in position to potentially cross 200. However, Zimbabwe’s bowlers fought back late, and South Africa lost six wickets for 31 runs in 29 balls. Pretorius, who had been dropped on 57, remained on course for his maiden T20I century but fell for 94 in the 19th over. Despite the late collapse, South Africa finished on 185/7, with Pretorius’ innings containing seven fours and a six.

    Zimbabwe struggle in the chase

Zimbabwe’s chase got off to a poor start as Ben Curran was dismissed early after attempting to clear short fine leg, with Pretorius taking the catch. Brian Bennett soon followed, giving Fortuin a wicket after another excellent catch from Pretorius. The Proteas continued to chip away at Zimbabwe’s batting order, with Duan Jansen producing one of the highlights of the innings. He took a stunning one-handed catch in his follow-through to dismiss Ryan Burl, before removing Tadiwanashe Marumani with the next delivery.

Jansen had earlier bowled Innocent Kaia with a pinpoint yorker and finished with 3/21, taking his series tally to eight wickets and moving to the top of the tournament’s wicket charts. Zimbabwe slipped to 51/5 in the eighth over and never recovered. Sikandar Raza provided some resistance with 45, but the middle order struggled to build partnerships as South Africa’s spinners maintained constant pressure.

Bjorn Fortuin stars as South Africa complete victory

Stand-in captain Bjorn Fortuin was the pick of the South African bowlers, producing career-best figures of 4/24. His spell was crucial in preventing Zimbabwe from building any momentum after the early wickets. Prenelan Subrayen and Nqaba Peter also chipped in with wickets as Zimbabwe continued to lose batters at regular intervals. The Chevrons eventually collapsed for 142, handing South Africa a 43-run victory.

The defeat leaves Zimbabwe with a net run rate of -1.691 and puts added pressure on their qualification hopes. They have one group-stage match remaining against Namibia on Thursday, while South Africa still have one fixture left. Namibia will play both of their remaining matches as the teams battle for places in the final.
