Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola said his side must learn to play with more intensity after the 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.

Iraola was indebted to a late equaliser for a second week in a row and witnessed a sloppy and at times disjointed performance at Anfield.

A fine late goal from Victor Munoz preserved a point but the former Bournemouth manager was left with plenty to work on.

“I think we were very poor in the first half.” 😤

He told BBC Match of the Day: “We were poor in the first half. We improved a lot our performance in the second half, we came from behind twice, but I think the first half didn’t allow us to win the game at the end.

“We were quite passive without the ball. We were allowing them to pass and both goals, which came from throw-ins, we didn’t defend properly. The general feeling is that we were passive defensively.

“In the second half when we were more aggressive and played with more intensity we attacked better. I hope this serves as a lesson for the future.

“Victor [Munoz] has played really well. Defensively and offensively he did a very good job and was always a threat.”

‘I am proud of the performance’

Forest manager Oliver Glasner was close to his first win in charge of the club but left Anfield in positive mood.

Forest lost back-to-back games against Leeds last week in league and cup but were much better at Anfield, with Morgan Gibbs-White’s penalty almost giving them a win.

He told BBC Match of the Day: “I think we all have the same feeling, proud of the performance, proud of how many chances we created and proud of the reaction after we conceded the equaliser.

“On the other side, we’re all a little bit disappointed we couldn’t get the win. I think this shows how good we performed, how well we played. Overall, a very good performance.

“I could see our tactical shape work well in many parts but after 60-65 minutes, the level drops a little bit. Which shows that everything is not 100% settled, it can’t be after six or seven weeks together. Also, we conceded the same goal more or less, in the same area.

“What I loved most was how we played forward and created the chances, especially in the first half. I think we should have led by more than one goal.

“But again, it’s still the beginning of the season. The beginning of the journey and this performance will give us confidence.

“I always hope the next time it will go quicker but, again, we could see many positive aspects. Many things that should and will give us confidence but it’s important to stay humble and keep working hard.”
