Liverpool have unveiled plans to pay tribute to departing duo Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah before Sunday’s game with Brentford at Anfield.
Left-back Robertson and striker Salah both joined the Reds in 2017 and have played significant roles in the club’s recent successes. The pair have each won six major trophies during their time on Merseyside, including the Champions League and Premier League.
The club announced this afternoon they will say farewell with mosaics in their honour.
A club statement read: “Mosaics will be displayed at Anfield on Sunday in celebration of the departing Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah.
“Both legends and cornerstones of the Reds’ many successes over the past nine years, Robertson and Salah will leave the club at the end of this season.
“Sunday’s Premier League home match against Brentford marks their final game as Liverpool players and a special send-off is planned for the duo, with fan mosaics to be displayed.
“The Kop will lead the tribute to Salah while the lower Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand will honour Robertson, with the mosaics to be shown before kick-off.”
Rooney believes Salah should be denied Liverpool farewell
News that the club will honour Salah will annoy Wayne Rooney.
The former England international claimed this morning that he would have Salah “nowhere near the ground” on Sunday.
Salah took to social media following Friday night’s 4-2 defeat at Aston Villa and made pointed remarks about the Reds’ tactics that were perceived as a dig at boss Arne Slot, claiming Liverpool should go back to the “heavy metal football” that became the trademark of his predecessor Jurgen Klopp.
Rooney believes he shouldn’t be in the matchday squad as a result.
He told the Wayne Rooney Show on the BBC: “I find it sad at the end of what he’s done and what he’s achieved at Liverpool. It’s not the point for him to come out and aim another dig at Slot.
“He wants to play heavy metal football, so he’s basically saying he wants Jurgen Klopp football. Now I don’t think Mo Salah can cope with that type of football any more. I think his legs have gone to play at that high tempo and high intensity.
“If I was Arne Slot, I’d have him nowhere near the stadium in the last game. I had it with Alex Ferguson. I had a disagreement and fallout and at Alex Ferguson’s last game at Old Trafford, he left me out of the squad for that reason.
“He’s almost just dropped the grenade and said he doesn’t trust and believe in Arne Slot and almost thrown his team-mates who are going to be there next season and let them have to deal with that as well and put them into a position.”
