Meghan Trainor is sharing her thoughts about the “toxic mom group” drama sparked by Ashley Tisdale‘s essay for The Cut, wherein the actress wrote about feeling left out. Although the latter didn’t mention names, outlets identified Trainor as part of the group.
Trainor is speaking out about the issue and how her name was brought into the drama, saying how she felt bad for the two parties involved.
The Toxic Mom Group Drama
On January 1, The Cut published an article penned by Ashley Tisdale titled “Breaking Up With My Toxic Mom Group.” In it, the “High School Musical” actress detailed how she found a group of mom friends, thinking, “I’ve found my village.”
Later, however, she noticed she was being left out of get-togethers, which prompted her to question whether she wasn’t “cool enough” to be part of the group of “incredible, smart, funny women.” Tisdale then said she no longer wanted to be involved with the women, and she sent a message to the group chat saying, “This is too high school for me and I don’t want to take part in it anymore.”
Tisdale didn’t mention names, but when articles were written about her essay, photos of Tisdale with a group of women, including Megan Trainor, Mandy Moore, and Hilary Duff, were posted, leading many to believe Trainor was part of the drama.
Meghan Trainor Felt Bad For Ashley Tisdale

In a conversation with Us Weekly, Trainor spoke about the controversy. “I felt bad for Ashley. I felt bad that she was ever that sad, and I think it was just a lot of miscommunication and confusion. I don’t know what happened, but I wish them all the best,” the singer said.
Trainor said she received a text from Tisdale apologizing for her name being mentioned by outlets as one of the “toxic” moms. “I was like, ‘It’s all right, girl, like, the world’s a silly, crazy place, and they just want something to talk about,’” she replied.
According to the “All About That Bass” singer, she had no idea what the issue was, as she hadn’t seen any of the women in the mom group for a year. In fact, she confessed to being a “bad mom friend” for missing out on many of the group’s get-togethers.
The Singer Hasn’t Been Part Of The Group Chat For Some Time

Trainor further explained that she was once part of a group chat with the moms, but they eventually started a new group chat without her. “There was a group chat, but, like, eventually they started a group chat without me because I wasn’t there. And I was like, ‘That’s totally fine.’”
She also got messages from members of the mom group apologizing that she was “dragged into” the controversy. Trainor said the situation was a “nightmare” for some of the mothers in the group who were not famous, as they received negative online attention following Tisdale’s essay.
Meghan Trainor Misses Having Mom Friends
Between her commitments to her music career and raising her children, Trainor’s schedule has become increasingly demanding, leaving her with limited time to spend with friends. However, she admitted that she misses having mom friends, saying, “It’s so hard to make mom friends [in] this season of life. I have a handful, but I never get to see them.”
Trainor has three children with her husband, Daryl Sabara. They welcomed their eldest, Riley, in February 2021. Two years later, in July 2023, the singer gave birth to their second son, Barry. In January 2026, Trainor and Sabara became parents to their first daughter, Mikey Moon, who was born via surrogate.
Meghan Trainor Is Releasing A New Album

Despite dedicating most of herself to motherhood, Trainor has still made time to work on her seventh studio album, “Toy With Me.” In an interview with Us Weekly, the singer shared her inspiration for the new album, describing it as the “most honest and fearless” one she’s done.
“I’ve been working so hard on my health and wellness and taking care of myself,” she said, adding that many of the songs in the album were for her daughter. “I wrote those songs for my baby girl, for when she’s in middle school, or when she goes through her first breakup, and yeah, when she needs to shimmer and feel confident.”
The album’s lead single, “Still Don’t Care,” was released in November 2025, and a second song, “Get In Girl,” debuted in February. “Toy With Me” is scheduled to be released on April 24, and Trainor will be kicking off her album tour in June.
