Michael B. Jordan isn’t slowing down following his Oscar win for his dual role in the massively successful 2025 film “Sinners,” and now his latest post-award role has been confirmed.

Jordan is set to star in the upcoming film adaptation of an iconic 1980s television show that defined the decade and cemented its place in pop culture history.

According to an April 22 report from Deadline, Michael B. Jordan has been confirmed to star in Universal Pictures’ upcoming big-screen version of the iconic 1980s cop television series “Miami Vice.”

Jordan will step into the role of Ricardo Tubbs, famously portrayed by Phillip Michael Thomas in the legendary NBC series that ran from 1984 to 1990. He will star alongside Austin Butler, who will play his partner Sonny Crockett, previously played by Don Johnson.

Titled “Miami Vice ‘85,” the film is said to “explore the glamour and corruption of mid-’80s Miami,” inspired by the show’s pilot episode and genre-defining first season.

A 2005 movie version of the series starred Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell.

“Miami Vice ‘85” is set to be released on August 6, 2027, and directed by Joseph Kosinski.

Michael B. Jordan is set for a busy 2027, as not only is he bringing “Miami Vice” back to the silver screen, but he’s also tackling another classic that premieres next March.

Jordan steps behind the camera for the second time, the first being 2023’s “Creed III,” to direct the upcoming remake of the classic romantic heist film “The Thomas Crown Affair.”

“It’s a big movie. It’s international. It’s sexy. It’s a lot of fun. A lot of twists and turns. It’s going to have some things that I think audiences won’t be expecting that might be a nice treat for them,” Jordan said of the production, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Shortly after learning he was an official Oscar nominee, Jordan spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about what he did as soon as he received the news.

“My mom was my first call,” he told the outlet earlier this month. “It was great. A lot of tears, and the reason why I’m even in this industry and why I’m acting at all — why that was even an idea. To talk to the woman who started it all first meant the world.”

Addressing the massive success of “Sinners,” which set a host of box-office records, Jordan noted that the film resonates with audiences.

“It’s really a testament to the film as a whole and all the pieces involved and the people that went to go see this movie and watched this film,” he said.

Per PEOPLE, while speaking at the Palm Springs Film Festival, where he was honored with the Icon Award for his performance in “Sinners,” Jordan took a moment during his acceptance speech to thank Coogler and offer a heartwarming tribute that circled back to the film.

“Like Smoke and Stack, we’re two sides of the same coin,” Jordan said of the bond between the two that dates back to Coogler’s 2012 feature debut, “Fruitvale Station.”

The “Black Panther” star continued, adding: “We’ve been building something special together, film after film. You push me, I push you. And together we make work that neither one of us could do alone. You give me room to take risks, and I bring everything I have to your vision. ‘Sinners’ is proof of that.”

Elsewhere in his speech, Jordan expressed his gratitude for receiving the honor, which was presented to him by Colman Domingo.

“It feels good to be here amongst friends and colleagues in a room full of people committed to making the art and amplifying voices, cultures, and the power of film,” he said. “This film reminds us of what’s possible when great artists come together and are given the freedom to create from their souls.”

As Michael B. Jordan accepted his Academy Award, he made a point of acknowledging every Black winner of the highest acting honor that came before him.

“I stand here because of the people who came before me,” the actor said. “Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx, Halle Berry, Forest Whitaker, Will Smith. And so many others who kicked doors open so that actors like me could walk through them.”
