Since February, investigations have been going on concerning the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie. Recently, a post coming from a sheriff’s office claiming “Nancy Found” has become the subject of controversy on social media. Since then, commenters have been sharing their reactions.
The Post Came From Pima County Sheriff’s Department, Which Has Been Investigating Nancy Guthrie’s Disappearance
Nancy Guthrie was reported missing in early February. She was last seen at her home in Catalina Foothills in Tucson, Arizona. According to authorities, it is believed that she had been abducted.
Nancy is the mother of Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie. Around the time her mother’s disappearance had first been reported, Savannah took a leave of absence from the show, returning in early April.
Recently, confusion was caused on social media after a missing person’s “found” poster was shared for another Nancy. Commenters online picked up on the post, believing it was Savannah Guthrie’s mother.

The post had previously been shared by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, which had been involved with the Guthrie case. It depicted 82-year-old Nancy Radakovich, who was last seen on April 16. A later post claimed that Radakovich had been found, with “Located” printed along her photo.
While The Photo Listed Radakovich’s Name, The Caption Was Too Misleading
As the caption only identified the missing person as “Nancy,” many on social media assumed it was Nancy Guthrie. As noted by The U.S. Sun, many took to social media to criticize the sheriff’s office for the caption.
As one person wrote on social media:
- This is sick…There were 100 different ways this could have been posted but your intentionally vague ‘Nancy has been found’ caption is shameless.
Update: Nancy has been located. https://t.co/bS6yuRL1J3 pic.twitter.com/pVX7Xz5ekK

Although Radakovich’s name was listed on the photo, many accused the post of being clickbait. A few commenters appeared to be locals and even questioned the overall story. Some comments included:
- “This entire Psyop is exhausting.. We’re just believing anything on this Season of America. Was this ‘Nancy’ even missing? Was this created to make it seem like you found a missing person?”
- “I’m embarrassed for my town. How disgusting! Making post as click bait?! Please don’t say that was not the intent. If you go back and look at all the other missing persons posts, they have the first and last name.”
- “I LITERALLY THOUGHT THIS WAS NANCY GUTHRIE. THE WAY MY HEART JUST DROPPED!”
- “You need to fire your social media manager. This was so out of touch!”
- “With ‘Nancy’ Guthrie being a high profile case across the world, you all did not have any discernment to revise the headline with the surname of Nancy. Yes, the photo is there but it was very misleading at first glance. Even w/the outcry you don’t change it.”
