New Zealand have unveiled a powerful 15-member squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, with the tournament set to mark the emotional end of an era for the White Ferns. Senior stars Sophie Devine and Lea Tahuhu will retire from international cricket after the global event, while veteran batter Suzie Bates will also be playing her final T20 World Cup.

The defending champions, led by skipper Amelia Kerr, have named a balanced squad filled with experience and emerging talent as they aim to retain the title. Youngsters Nensi Patel and Izzy Sharp have earned maiden T20 World Cup selections, adding fresh energy to a side built around proven match-winners.

End of a golden generation for White Ferns

The upcoming tournament will be especially significant for New Zealand cricket as it brings the curtain down on the international careers of some of their biggest names. Devine and Tahuhu, both long-serving pillars of the side, are set to bid farewell after the competition, while Bates prepares for her tenth and final T20 World Cup.

For Bates and Devine, this journey began in the inaugural Women’s T20 World Cup back in 2009. Over the years, the duo have become symbols of consistency and leadership for New Zealand, playing major roles in shaping the team’s identity on the world stage.

Tahuhu, known for her fiery pace and aggressive intent, has also been one of the side’s most reliable performers across formats. Their departures will leave a major gap, but the trio will be determined to finish on a high by defending the title.

    Fresh faces earn deserved opportunities

Among the new names in the squad, Nensi and Sharp have attracted major attention. Sharp, who captained New Zealand at the ICC U19 Women’s World Cup in 2023, made her senior debut last year and has quickly impressed with her maturity and leadership qualities. Nensi, meanwhile, has been rewarded for a strong run in domestic cricket. Her consistent performances earlier this year earned her a national call-up, and now she gets the chance to showcase her talent on the biggest stage.

Bree Illing and Polly Inglis have also been included and will feature in their first Women’s T20 World Cup after previously gaining experience in the ODI World Cup setup.

Defending champions to begin campaign against West Indies

Captain Kerr will once again be central to New Zealand’s campaign as the White Ferns prepare to defend their crown. With a strong mix of all-rounders, experienced bowlers, and dependable batters, the squad looks well-equipped for English conditions. Placed in Group 2, New Zealand will open their campaign against West Indies on June 14 in Southampton. The tournament itself begins on June 12, with hosts England taking on Sri Lanka at Edgbaston.

With legends preparing for one final challenge and young stars eager to make their mark, New Zealand’s 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup journey promises to be one of emotion, ambition, and legacy.
