Nothing Warp returns, but not how we expected

File transfer, compatibility with every computer, a Chrome extension and an Android companion app. A week ago, the four elements lived together in harmony. Only Nothing Warp, master of all four elements, could combine them. But when the world needed it most, it vanished.

Nothing Warp was released last week, but was removed hours after its release. Now it has returned, but not quite in the same way.

The Chrome browser extension and app allow users to transfer files, including photos, videos, documents and applications between any Android device and any computer. It could also share links and other text, saved in a clipboard.

At launch, the interface was simple and clean, the speeds were comparable to other file transfer apps, and the app was simple and intuitive to use. The app and Chrome extension did require a decent amount of permissions, but the program itself could not store files. From an outsider’s perspective, the app and launch were great, so it was quite the surprise when Nothing pulled it without explanation.

Users and media outlets alike could not figure out why it was removed, though now we have some idea. Apparently, it was to “fine-tune” the app, though Nothing has been vague about what that means. Here’s what the company told us in a statement:

“Nothing Warp was temporarily withdrawn to fine-tune the product following its initial release.”

Fortunately, the app has returned. Nothing reinstated its initial community page, opening up downloads of the beta app to its users. This time, however, the app is not on the Google Play Store. The app has been replaced by an APK that is available to download on the community page.
