    • Federal agencies can allow remote work during the World Cup.
    • The tournament runs from Thursday to July 19.
    • The U.S. is hosting matches in 11 cities.
    • Cities include Atlanta, Boston, and Los Angeles.

The Office of Personnel Management is giving federal agencies in the 11 World Cup host markets across the nation the OK to let their employees work remotely.

The soccer extravaganza is being jointly hosted by the U.S., Canada and Mexico starting Thursday and continuing through July 19.

The U.S. stadiums for games are in Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle and Kansas City, Missouri.

In a memo Tuesday, OPM said it “reminds agencies with offices located in a host city of their authority to approve situational/unscheduled telework and other workforce flexibilities at their sole and exclusive discretion for impacted employees.”

The federal office issued the reminder due to anticipated spikes in traffic in those cities and the strain on law enforcement and security personnel.

The U.S. is hosting 78 of the 104 matches during the FIFA 2026 World Cup, including the quarterfinal, semifinal and final rounds.

The title game will hit MetLife Stadium near New York on July 19.
