Oprah Winfrey’s real name isn’t a secret. She’s talked about it many times before. However, a new generation is only now becoming familiar with the popular talk show host. One of her biggest fans, Keke Palmer, was shocked to learn Oprah Winfrey’s real name.

Keke Palmer is an actress and singer who once appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show when she was just 12. Now 32, the former Disney child star welcomed her idol to the Baby, This Is Keke Palmer podcast. The two chatted about Oprah’s long career in television and what she’s doing now.

At one point, Keke Palmer shared shocking information about the talk show host that she only recently found out. “Now wait a minute, I found out that your name was originally Orpah.” Oprah Winfrey was named after “that whole Ruth and Naomi story” in the Bible. Keke Palmer asked why Oprah Winfrey decided to change her name.

The TV personality revealed that it wasn’t her decision but was decided for her at a young age. “I was a kid, and nobody knew how to spell it. It turned out, on my birth certificate, it’s Or-pah, then people started calling me Oprah,” she recalled. “It’s just a difference between the P being before the R or after the R. Once they started with Oprah, that’s it.”

Oprah Winfrey didn’t even know until she was in her 20s that she was going by the wrong name her whole life. She realized the error when she looked at her birth certificate. Her real name is widely known to the people who grew up watching her daytime talk show. But it’s brand-new information for the younger generation.

Oprah Winfrey’s daytime talk show was must-see television, but she shared one major regret she has. She had a shocking reaction when Keke Palmer sang a line from Oprah Winfrey’s one and only song. “Run On” was a gospel-tinged theme song for Season 13 of the daytime talk show.

“Girl, please. Okay, that is one of the mistakes of my career,” she said in response to Keke Palmer singing it. Keke Palmer tried to reassure Oprah that the theme song was iconic. “You know it was bad. It was bad. You’re just saying that ’cause you’re looking at me right now. It was bad. It was pretty bad,” the talk show host responded.
