We now know the six teams that have pre-qualified for the 2027 Canadian Curling Championships.
At the 2027 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, the three qualified teams are Kerri Einarson of Gimli, Manitoba (Team Canada as the defending Scotties champion), Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Rachel Homan of Ottawa, Ontario (first place in the Canadian Team Ranking System with 499.5 points) and Taylor Reese-Hansen of Kitimat, British Columbia (fourth in the CTRS with 172.05 points). Reese-Hansen was given a spot because the curling team skipped by Winnipeg’s Kaitlyn Lawes disbanded. Lawes stepped back from curling this year, Lawes’s third Selena Njegovan of Winnipeg has formed her own team (but is currently pregnant with twins) and Lawes’s second Jocelyn Peterman of Red Deer, Alberta is the new lead on Team Einarson.
At the 2027 Montana’s Brier in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, the three qualified teams are Matt Dunstone of Winnipeg, Manitoba (Team Canada as the defending Brier champion), Canadian Olympic gold medalist Brad Jacobs of Calgary, Alberta (first place in the CTRS with 422 points), and Tyler Tardi of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (fourth place in the CTRS with 182.775 points), Tardi has taken over Mike McEwen’s team and got a spot because John Epping’s team disbanded. Jacobs has won the gold medal for Canada in men’s curling at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi and the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo. Homan won the bronze medal in women’s curling at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
