Telus-owned Public Mobile is offering some customers discounted plans with cheaper rates and extra data.
A Public Mobile customer took to Reddit to share that Public texted them a special $34/60GB Canada/U.S./Mexico plan. Per the text, the offer ends Jan. 28, and customers who receive it can switch by replying ‘YES’ to the message.
The customer noted in their post that they were on Public’s $35/75GB Canada/U.S./Mexico plan, but it doesn’t seem like that’s a requirement for this offer. I’m also on the $35/75GB plan, but I haven’t received a text offering the $34/60GB deal yet.

Moreover, when I checked my Public account to see if any offers were available there, the only one listed was a $40/80GB plan. On the one hand, that plan is better than Public’s in-market $40/60GB plan, but I have no reason to upgrade and pay $5 more per month for an extra 5GB of data. (I barely use my 75GB data bucket as is!)
Speaking of in-market plans, Public has two options that are kind of close to the $34/60GB plan. First is the provider’s $35/30GB plan — almost the same price, but half the data, and it’s only Canada-wide. Next up is the aforementioned $40/60GB plan, which is basically identical to the $34 offer aside from the price.

Ultimately, your mileage may vary with this offer. If you do get it, it might be worth taking if it’s an improvement on your existing plan or better matches your wireless needs. Even if you didn’t get the text, it might be worth checking your Public account for any special offers. You can do so by logging in and selecting the option to change your subscription — that will show you all the plan options you can switch to, including any special deals.
