Real Madrid have denied they are interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández and claim such rumours “unnecessarily harm the entities and the player involved”.
Reports in the UK and Spain suggested the Argentina international was high on Jose Mourinho’s wish-list and that talks had started over a summer move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
But the 15-time European champions took the unusual decision to publicly denounce the suggestions this morning with a statement that made clear Fernandez was not part of their plans.
Real Madrid have ‘no intention’ of signing Enzo Fernández
It read: “In light of the reports and statements that have appeared in recent days regarding an alleged interest from Real Madrid CF in the player Enzo Fernández, the club wishes to state that it has not made any effort, either direct or indirect, to sign the aforementioned player and, likewise, has no intention of undertaking such an operation.
“Real Madrid wishes to express its utmost respect for Enzo Fernández, a great footballer whose career and quality are widely known, as well as for Chelsea FC, a club with which it maintains an excellent institutional relationship.
“Precisely because of the respect that an entity like Chelsea FC deserves and because of the principles of institutional loyalty that have always governed the actions of Real Madrid, the club considers it necessary to categorically deny speculations that are unfounded and do not correspond to reality.
“Real Madrid regrets that, despite the clarity of the facts and the lack of any action on the part of the club, information continues to be disseminated that does not correspond to reality and that only contributes to generating confusion among fans and unnecessarily harming the entities and people involved.”

Fernandez’s agent continues to talk up Madrid move
Fernandez was suspended by Chelsea for two games in April after saying, “I really like Madrid because it’s very similar to Buenos Aires,” on Argentinian TV show Nadie Dice Nada.
And in recent days, the player’s agent Javier Pastore has also suggested his client fancies a move to the Spanish capital.
“At the moment, the player is calmly focusing on the national team,” Pastore told reporters. “He’s playing in a World Cup and is very close to reaching the round of 16.
“He’s thinking only about that, whilst we’re looking at options for him to leave Chelsea, but there’s nothing definite or confirmed with any club.”
On Real Madrid specifically, Pastore said: “He has lots of friends there [at Real Madrid], and he’s very close to Julian Alvarez [who plays for Atletico].
“In fact, whenever they can, they spend time together there.
“And I’m living in Madrid too. Every time he’s travelled there, it’s been to see me and to sort out work matters, but apart from that: who doesn’t like Madrid?
“I never played in Madrid… yet I even live there.”
Fernandez, 25, joined Chelsea for a then-British record £107 million fee from Benfica in January 2023. He is expected to be in the Argentina XI when the defending champions face Cape Verde at the World Cup tonight.
