Rosalía posted a short Spanish-language message on Instagram this week tagging actress Alexa Demie, and the two-liner pulled in over 1.4 million likes.
The post read: “y si me mandan un detective privau que hago @alexademie teamooo💓.” In English, that translates to something like “and if they send me a private detective, what do I do.” It’s a playful, rhetorical joke aimed at Demie, followed by “teamooo” and a pink heart emoji. “Teamooo” is an informal, stretched-out version of “te amo,” the Spanish phrase for “I love you.” The exaggerated spelling is what you’d type to a close friend in a group chat.
The post isn’t tied to any announcement or promotion. It reads as a personal, lighthearted note between two close friends.
Rosalía is a Barcelona-born artist. She trained in classical flamenco as a teenager and built her early career around it. She went on to develop one of the more original sounds in contemporary pop. Her 2022 album “MOTOMAMI” won the Grammy for Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album. It also drew serious attention from critics and listeners well outside of Latin music circles. Her sound blends flamenco with pop and reggaeton, and it doesn’t fit any easy category.
Alexa Demie is best known for playing Maddy Perez on HBO’s “Euphoria.” The show was a major cultural moment during its first two seasons, and Demie’s performance earned her a large following beyond television audiences. She’s since built a strong presence in the fashion world. She and Rosalía have been publicly friendly for some time, and their creative circles overlap quite a bit.
The word “privau” in the post is worth noting. It’s a colloquial, regional shorthand for “privado,” meaning private. Standard written Spanish would use “privado,” but this reflects how the word sounds in casual, fast speech. It’s the kind of shorthand you’d use in a text message, not a polished caption.
Getting 1.4 million likes on a plain text post is a meaningful number even for an artist with Rosalía’s following. Reactions at that scale tend to come attached to bigger news – a new single, a major announcement, a striking photo. This was a two-line message to a friend with no promotional hook attached.
Rosalía’s last major release was “RR,” her 2023 collaborative album with Puerto Rican singer Rauw Alejandro. She hasn’t announced any new solo material since then. This week’s post didn’t change that picture. By all appearances, it was a personal note and nothing more.
