Today hosts Savannah Guthrie and Sheinelle Jones share a lot more than just the news with viewers. They’ve both been open about their family lives. Sheinelle Jones’ three kids recently appeared on the morning program to celebrate her new book. Savannah Guthrie expressed guilt over her celebrity status after her mom’s shocking abduction. However, she absolved her co-host of feeling guilty.
The Latest On Today Host’s Missing Mom
Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother has been missing for over 75 days. She was last seen on the evening of January 31, 2021. Nancy Guthrie was reported missing the next day. Despite the FBI being on the case, little evidence has been found. Restored camera footage showed a masked person tampering with the security cameras, but that person hasn’t been identified.
Savannah Guthrie returned to the Today Show in April. Eagle-eyed viewers noticed that she mysteriously disappeared in the middle of the show this week. Social media users speculated that maybe there had been a break in her mother’s case. However, the latest news involves the FBI testing samples that were taken at the time of the disappearance.
Authorities still don’t have a suspect or motive for the alleged abduction. In her first interview since her mother went missing, Savannah Guthrie broke down in tears over the possibility that her celebrity status might be behind the assumed kidnapping.
Savannah Guthrie Absolved Sheinelle Jones Of Guilt After Tragedy
Sheinelle Jones suffered a personal tragedy of her own last year. Her husband, whom she met in college, passed away in May 2025 of an aggressive form of brain cancer. He left behind three children, including 13-year-old twins. Sheinelle Jones stepped away from the Today Show for some months. Shortly after her return, she was promoted to co-host of the show’s fourth hour.

She was recently on Jenna Bush Hager’s podcast to promote her new collection of essays, Through Mom’s Eyes. Sheinelle Jones opened up about how Savannah Guthrie absolved her of guilt regarding her husband’s death.
“Because her father passed at 16, she was like, ‘You don’t have to try to be the superhero.’ And she actually helped me tremendously,” Sheinelle Jones said. Savannah Guthrie also encouraged her co-host to let her 16-year-old son know that he doesn’t have to be the man of the house after his father’s death.
Savannah Guthrie has been very open about how traumatic her father’s death from a heart attack was when she was a teenager. She said that it “cracked open” her family and “crushed” them. Her mother’s disappearance is likely just as difficult.
Yet, Savannah Guthrie and Sheinelle Jones are both strong women. They have their Today Show family and friends to lean on during the tough times. Share your thoughts on Savannah Guthrie’s advice in the comments.
