Selena Gomez turned 34 today. She used the day to mark something bigger than a birthday.

Her Instagram message celebrated six years of the Rare Impact Fund, the youth mental health nonprofit she founded in 2020. The post was equal parts gratitude and encouragement for the community that has supported the organization since day one.

“Little me would never believe I’d get to celebrate my birthday alongside 6 years of the Rare Impact Fund,” she wrote. “My heart is so full today.”

She opened with personal warmth for her followers. “Every single day I get to create because of all of you,” Gomez told her community. “Thank you for always making me the happiest girlie in the world.”

From there she turned the spotlight toward the fund and everyone who’s been part of it. “Watching this community come together to support youth mental health has been the greatest gift,” she added. She also invited anyone who wants to learn more to check the link in her bio.

The Rare Impact Fund has focused since its launch on expanding access to mental health services for young people globally. Over six years it has grown into a meaningful organization, partnering with mental health programs and working to close resource gaps for youth in underserved communities. Gomez has remained the face of the fund since the beginning, lending the cause her platform and her personal story.

Mental health has been part of Gomez’s public conversation for a long time. She’s talked openly about anxiety and depression over the years. A lupus diagnosis in 2015 and a kidney transplant in 2017 brought additional health challenges into the spotlight. She’s handled all of it with a kind of quiet honesty that her fans respond to. Gomez didn’t launch the Rare Impact Fund from a distance. She built it around experiences she’s lived through firsthand.

The birthday message drew over 2.67 million likes on Instagram. For context, Gomez has more than 400 million followers on the platform, one of the highest counts in the world. Even by those standards, the engagement on today’s post was striking. Her fanbase, known as Selenators, packed the comments with birthday messages and supportive notes about the fund.

Away from the advocacy work, Gomez has had a productive stretch. Rare Beauty, her cosmetics line, has become one of the most recognized celebrity beauty brands around. The brand donates a percentage of sales to mental health causes, keeping the business and the philanthropy connected in a direct way.

Turning 34 is a good occasion for reflection. Adding six years of a growing mental health nonprofit to the mix makes it an even better one. From the sound of today’s message, Gomez is feeling every bit of it.
